Title: 《London Bus》

Title (Original Language): 伦敦巴士

Words in the Drawing: “My boss’s name is Simon, and he is a blacksmith. He came from Indonesia in the 1950s for medical treatment and has three daughters. Simon is getting old now, so he doesn’t do the blacksmith business anymore. Instead, he sells some flowers in front of his house. My skin is sensitive to pesticides, so I don’t like planting flowers and plants. My boss is a nice person and always takes me out for lunch. He is handsome and good in painting, and has painted two beautiful drawings of a “cat eating fish” and “the Virgin”. I am unable to draw this picture well, especially the front part, so I asked Simon to teach me to draw the bus’s windows with oblique lines. ”

Title:  《My Dream Toyota》

Title (Original Language): 梦想的Toyota

Words in the Drawing: “I was supposed to draw a yellow sports car but I drew a Hilux van instead. I took the driving test at the age of 18 but because I felt that I did not have the capability to buy a car, I therefore took only the motorcycle license. I drove my first motorcycle for 8 years, and the second, for 20 years. I have ridden to Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur before, and it took me more than an hour to reach there. This motorcycle that I have now is second hand and it cannot go far.  Besides riding it in the Settlement, I would sometimes ride it to visit my mother and brother in Kepong.”

Title:  《Penang Bridge》

Title (Original Language): 槟城大桥

Words in the Drawing: “ When I was in my twenties, I took a bus to Penang for sightseeing. When I saw the Penang bridge, I felt that it was very special and bought a postcard of it, which I have kept until now. Later, someone ordered flowers for an exhibition, and I delivered it to Putrajaya with my boss.  At Putrajaya, I saw the beautiful bridge, which looked like the Los Angeles Bridge. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of it. ”

Title: 《Phone Shape Music Box》

Title (Original Language): 电话音乐盒

Words in the Drawing: “ This is a beautiful music box. It is not a phone and it doesn’t function. I like antiques very much. When I was young, my family was poor. My father died shortly after I was born. My mother was 29 years old at that time and had to work to support my two brothers. Due to that, she was unable to take care of me and sent me to my uncle and aunty who lived in Malacca. My uncle ran a grocery store. After my uncle died, my mother brought me back to Kuala Lumpur. When there was a relapse in my disease, I came to the Valley of Hope. After I recovered, I went to work and would visit my mother every week. Even when I grew physically weak as I grew older, I still continued to visit my mother every month, and would bring her favourite food to her. My mother passed away 3 months ago. At that time my phone was spoilt and my brother couldn’t reach me. By the time I visited her with things I bought for her, she had already passed on for one month. I feel really sad that I didn’t get to mourn her death.”

Title: 《Wild Elephant》

Title (Original Language): 野象

Words in the Drawing: “ This is a wild elephant living in the jungle, it has a cute tail. I think animals living in the jungles are free and happier. I got this disease and live in the Valley of Hope. I am not married and neither are my two brothers. We have no descendants, so when we grow old, we will have no children and grandchildren to look after us. It is very pitiful. My uncle adopted a daughter, who is my cousin sister.  After my cousin got married, she gave birth to 3 daughters. The fourth child was a son but because of dystocia, both mother and son passed away. My cousin and her husband used to sell roast meat in Petaling Street and the business was very good. Sometimes I would help them at the shop and later would bring roast chicken and duck back for the residents. After my cousin sister passed away, and her husband found another woman, I never went to help him at the shop again. Once, my cousin sister’s husband came here to visit me but I don’t know if he is still around now? I can still remember his name, Hong Fa Ming, and his daughters are Hong Qiu Yan, Qiu Xia and Qiu Ting. We have lost contact for a long time, and I wish to have a chance to meet them again.”

Title: 《Radio》

Title (Original Language): 收音机

Words in the Drawing: “ When I was a kid, there was a big radio at my uncle's house. I now have four small radios now, two of which can be plugged into the USB, where I can listen to Luo Shifeng’s songs. The other two are just radios. Every year I will make a trip to Damansara Audio Phonar, and when I see something that is cheap, I will buy it. Every morning at six or seven o’clock, I will turn on the radio to listen to Ai-FM. Other times when I am drawing I would also listen to the songs that I like.”
